The most common type of ant found in this country is the common garden ants which is sometimes known as the Black Ant or the garden ant (Lasius niger).
Black Ants usually become active in late February to March where they emerge from their nests. The usual type of nesting area would be behind fire places & boilers, inside cavity walls, under the foundations and under patio slabs.
